DRAFT COMMUNITY ACTION COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES
THURSDAY, APRIL 12, 2018
MCCOY PAVILLION, ALA MOANA REGIONAL PARK

CALL TO ORDER: Committee Chair Ryan Tam called the meeting to order at 6:03 p.m.

IN ATTENDANCE: Ryan Tam (Chair), Jim Danner, Brian Bagnall, and Derek Tamura

ALA WAI PROMENADE IMPROVEMENTS
??? General discussion about the next steps, since the final resolution was passed at the March 2018 neighborhood board meeting. Next actions will be to present at the Waikiki and McCully neighborhood board meetings in May.
• Derek Tamura discussed the landscaping issues at the promenade. Estimate could be about $600,000 to improve the irrigation. Also needs water and a backflow preventer.
• Idea for solar-powered food carts ($120,000).
• Need the city arborist to assess the condition of the trees. Bagnall to coordinate with Division of Urban Forestry.
• "Royal Staircase" behind the convention center was designed for concerts.
??? Consider a press conference to bring attention to the issue.

HAWAIIAN ELECTRIC COMPANY (HECO) SITE
• City Council resolution 18-23 passed; urges the city to negotiate with HECO to purchase the 11-acre site for an arts and culture district.
• Suggestion is for HECO to engage in a public process and orient towards green space

OTHER RESIDENT CONCERNS:
• Thomas Square: large concrete areas being installed in the park; city should install a play fountain to attract people to the park.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: Next committee meeting is Thursday, May 10, 2018.

ADJOURNMENT: As there was no further business before the Committee, Chair Tam adjourned the meeting at about 7:00 p.m.
